The luster is full and cartwheels nicely in hand. My opinion differs from what was on the flip, but I'll wait to say so I don't influence the replies. Thanks in advance. Alternate Lighting:
I'm struggling between AU-58 and MS-63. Had it not had the eye appealing toning, it would be an AU-58, but with market grading, they will give it an MS-63.
Thank you all for the feedback! Confirms my thoughts on this one. The coin stood out from the whole tray because of the toning, and was labeled MS60. My thoughts were right on with those above- this ain't no 60; if uncirculated it looked like a 63 to me. But is it? That's why I wanted to ask you folks if you could see visible signs of wear as this isn't my series. Reverse is clean, but above the ear and the hair under "Liberty" looked questionable to me so I figured MS looking 58 w/ nice toning. I was in a hurry, offered 50 bucks for it and they sold it. That's full retail for a 58/60 but figured I still made out all right considering the toning and slider look. Maybe I can piggyback on someone's submission to see what the TPG's would say... If it goes MS great, I'd be happy with 58 and a sticker too.
I’m at 62. The color is very nice but the cheek has been Hit a lot. I’d call it a little lower than 63. Especially as it’s a commoner date with no cc bump. I could see it at 58 too. Though I see the high point friction being from it banging against others in a mint bag and doubt it ever saw true circulation
It is uncirculated. I can’t see anything that would support AU grade. It looks like a nicely toned MS 63 Morgan. There is no evidence of circulation— just bag mark contact.
It is definitely uncirculated. It just has a weak strike over the ear. Nice Philly - way more rare than an O Mint.
I'm in agreement with @Mainebill on this. It's a lovely coin, and the eye appeal from the toning is nice, but there is enough distractions in key areas, as well as a pretty dinged up rim to hold it to a 62.
Just took a look in-hand and I don't see anything going on the rim bad enough to detract grade-wise on this one... (though I'm not an expert on that.) Cropping into the black background seems to accentuate that stuff. Utterly un-scientific, but while I had it out I took a couple shots next to an 83-O 63 and 64 for the "poorly lit kitchen counter at midnight view." I'll send it in for fun and post the results back here. I like 58's so that'd be a cool result... the strike vs. wear thing on these is out of my wheelhouse so we'll see what they say.
I'm in the bag rub, MS63 camp. Pretty album toning... Edit to add - Does your '83-O VAM-21A have the die scratch on the eagles' left wing?
The first set of pics don't show it but the second set does - light wear on the bonnet, leaves, cotton balls, nose and a few scattered places in the hair. A very pretty coin but an AU coin.
