Went to a pawn shop i frequent today. Saw some Morgans and some ASE's. He also had a year of the monkey silver coin. I asked about it. He said $30. Ehh. Then he started talking about a 16 d mercury dime and, some other key coins. Then said wanna see? Oh yea. He pulled out a bunch of 2×2's and i saw a 1799 large cent. I said thats what i wanna see. He handed it to me. It was porous and ugly. Got anymore old coppers? i asked, he said yes but, not much time. So he handed me this and said $50 and get outta here so i can get back to work. the photos are very deceiving. This thing still has luster. I think its a solid au. So let me have it. What you think?
I know very little about half cents, but I am definitely questioning authenticity of the coin. I've been trying to match the die break for the last 20 minutes, and can't. EDIT - Die chip, not break
If that is real, that is an unbelievable price. You should get it graded by pcgs just look at this price. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1800-C-1-N...838662?hash=item3d055ac086:g:mr4AAOSwKIpWFUjQ https://www.ebay.com/itm/1800-half-cent/173190502313?hash=item2852f557a9:g:M8AAAOSwusdaXjOj

The date could be a bit wonky. The second 0. She's grinning a bit in your coin. Why would a pawn shop sell a valuable coin for $50 when they can get 8x as much? LIBERTY looks larger on yours.
