It does surprise me that this belief remains strong despite the TPGs regularity changing their minds on things. The 1994 and 1997 nickels are a great example. Are they matte proofs, MS, SMS or SPs...because I’m pretty sure the TPGs have called them all those things. I honestly don’t know what these coins “truly are.” I know they aren’t a proof but at the same time they aren’t a business strike. Based on why they were made...my brain’s logic is to call them a SMS...but that doesn’t make it right. What I do know is the TPGs don’t know what to call them.
