Hello, I was recently sifting through my grandfather's coin collection and came across this coin. Yes, I do understand it's in terrible condition, but was just curious where he may have gotten it. Thanks!
What does the other side look like? really worn Liberty nickel? is the collection mostly US, or foreign? hopefully the experts will chime in.
What a cool mystery!.... I could be wrong (and often am), but I don't recognize the bust profile from any US coinage. Why don't you try posting this in the World Coin forum and see if any of those experts recognize the profile?
Not much to see indeed. Could be a Victoria penny: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces855.html Christian
I couldn't figure out the entire neck was in view and the slight ponytail. No US coin seems to be like that.
NO. That wouldn't be worth it. These coins are a dime a dozen and can easily be found in really poor grade.
There has to be a demand and I would almost guarantee with near 100% certainty that there isn't one. Please, don't give bunk info.
You can't get into a lowball registry without a date, or at least die characteristics that make it possible to assign a date, right?
Please don't give misleading information when you don't really know. Yes, there are people who collect POOR 1 examples and create Registry Sets for them. However, as previously stated, it does require that each coin have a recognizable date. Chris
How is asking a question giving misleading information? At what point did I state a fact, besides when I said that it is not worth it to grade his coin? I understand there are a few people who collect poor registry sets, but I was trying to emphasize that there is a minimal market for such coins.
That is not what you said in Post #11. Why is it so hard for some people to admit they made a mistake and move on? Chris
It is hard to admit a mistake that doesn't exist. My initial post states that: "Still not worth it at all" is referring to the fact that his coin is not worth grading. This is due to no date, and how common the coin is. The second part of the statement was intended to be a joke, to emphasize that very little people collect poor registry sets. Even if he were to get it graded, it wouldn't be easy to find others with interest in the coin. Chris, please stop trying to act like the cointalk police force, always criticizing other about their statements and opinions. You are simply construing my first post until I finally admit that I am wrong and you are superior to me. I have nothing to admit to you because nothing I said warrants criticism.
Until the OP shows the other side and states the metal and size all we know is that its a Bun Head Victoria coin. It could be a Farthing, Halfpenny, Penny or even if silver a Half Crown. However in that condition I scrap better.
