What do 1,200+ lbs of Lincoln cents look like?

Do you use pennies or do you keep them all in pristine condition. Using them shows indifference to the future. Every one you put into circulation removes an uncirculated coin for future generations to enjoy.

That's the exact one I pulled from $5 in pennies (Wells Fargo) a few years ago.
I stopped doing it, but this was a nice find.
On the Memorial clash, I am not seeing it, you would see all of the columns
across the face of the coin, there's a great picture on this site somewhere.

I’ll keep a look out for 68-S now. I can’t reveal my source just yet, as I might have another chance I buy a large amount like this. I don’t like competition

Lol. I don’t blame you. From what I thought 68s was the lowest Lincoln memorial minted. I think I saw that on YouTube by that guy Quinn’s Coins. He’s got a couple good vids that helped me get back into collecting. My old collection was just a pile of semi-rare to old stuff. My current collection is already way better.

Unfortunately, most we hear resulting from said site is negative and/or dangerous, so it's nice to see something positive for a change.

 

Just checked 1968S is the lowest mint for memorial cents ( copper anyway) and there are a few more that also never made it into the Billions.

 

That’s a great find! The truth is I only double check the really nice 98,99,and 2000 pennies for the WAM. Gotta stop being so judgemental.

 

The other side of your argument is: *duh*...they were minted to be used in everyday transactions; that is their purpose. If it was to be"preserved" and kept pristine forever, they'd be trucked directly from the mint to gigantic, climate-controlled tunnels.
Your argument, at least in this circumstance, is disingenuous and a trifle contrived. This was the other side of your argument, for your inspection.

 

Alright folks. I already had it out with a fellow who decided to insult me over a purchase, because he made a poor purchase in the past and thinks this is somehow comparable. That argument almost completely sidelined this thread. Now you want to quibble over modern coinage and collecting. You are both right in a sense, so please stop wasting your time and filling this thread with negativity! This argument is really a waste of time.

 

There is a lower number for the 1960-D small date. But maybe that's considered a variety and the combined mintage is higher than 68-S.
There's still over a quarter billion 1968-S cents.

 

Well, you undoubtedly have the right of this, but the thoughts that I expressed originally sprang from genuine distress at the image of perfectly good coins being destroyed. Was all that sniping from behind the anonymous safety of one's computer keyboard with false equivalencies and nightmarish scenarios of COINS BEING CIRCULATED.... just a sly attempt at having fun at the expense of others?

I've read with interest this discussion and I think what is not figured into the equation is the value of the fun in searching through all the coins in hopes of finding something.
I do assume you are doing it for fun and not a per hour cost/wage return.
As an ex-scout leader, I also appreciated your contribution to the Scouts in helping them earn badges and with their advancement.
Please keep posting your finds, I enjoy reading the results.
I would love to come across a half ton of coin's to search!
