Wow, i just never thought it was that technical ! I am having fun figuring it out though with the help from all of you. THANKS
The mintmark position has no bearing on anything, and simply because at that time (and to 1989 for cents) they were hand punched into the dies. Coin B also looks to my eyes to be a large, but due to the photos I wouldn't stake my life upon it. Also, you might want to edit the latter photos to remove a certain word.
It's okay.... I'm not personally offended. I mentioned it only because the mods try to foster a family-level atmosphere here.
Bellman is right on the money, best clarification I' ve seen to date, it's about the loop in the nine. The 7 on the large date is usually a tad lower than the O, but, as the young lady,s pics illustrate, there are exceptions. Both are large dates, then who knows, that higher 7 might be it's own bird, just say'in....Appreciate both posts..
Even though your pics are blurry, I think they're both Large date. Hope you stick around @shilines . This hobby teaches us a lot about history as well.

A point please, the Zero in the "Small Date" is much more symmetrical, while it is the large date that has the more oval shape.
In spirityoda's photos, I see what has been pointed out as the identifier for LD vs SD, that being the direction in which the tail of the 9 points at the 7 in the date. But in those same photos, and all the other photos that have been posted here in this thread, there is a painfully obvious difference in the distance between the S and the date in the LD and SD varieties. Why isn't that the defining characteristic instead of that barely identifiable difference in the 9?
You're referring to the mintmark? If so, it would be due to the fact that at that time (and up to and including 1989) they were punched into the dies by hand, meaning positions can vary.
