1880 CC Help

I have come to the realization that I am gonna have to buy most of the CC Morgans, raw and circulated. I really liked the look of this Morgan. It has a red tone to it and in the peripherals it has a blue tint.
I started to try and VAM this one and it isn't matching anything that is on VAM World. This could be because of the crust in and around the devices. Especially in the date and MM. I am just to new to VAM'ing to say that it isn't counterfeit. The closest I feel to an in hand attribution is the VAM-1 slanted arrow feathers and large CC. It says that it doesn't exist.

I am guessing either no one saw this thread or my photos suck.
Given the mood I was in, It may be that there isn't anything identifiable in the photo to help.
Thought I would give this a bump just in case.
Would any of you give this an acetone bath? or would it possibly look too clean?

I never saw your post until you gave bump ttt. It looks like a C3b reverse to me and it looks like the breaks in the wreath are present.

 

I will take a look Thank You. What grade would you say that it is? I am at a vf35 maybe a 40?

 

VAM 1 not existing is correct. There is no "normal die" 1880-CC. Only two die pairs have the top arrow feather slanted with the large CC -- VAM 3 and VAM 9, and yours looks like VAM 3. The dash under the 8 shown on VAMWorld is going to be nearly impossible to see on a crusty, circulated coin, so we have to go by the mint mark position.

 

I thought I was getting a hint of a dash under the 8, but nothing was clear. Thank you for the help.

 

I personally would not give it a bath of any kind. This is where this coin is at and there's nothing you can do to stop what time has done.
I do like it.... and have had several like it a greyish brown tint.

 

I really didn't think that this was a candidate for a bath, I am just glad that it has been identified.

 

I have had a few Morgans like this cc seem to turn this color more so guessing it is the ore used in them compared to what was used in others minted in Philly, New Orleans, and San Francisco. I maybe wrong but it seems to me cc that were circulated turn more so that color.

 

I would try a little soap and water to remove anything attached like someone's lunch or worse. It would leave the deepest crust and tarnish without changing color.

 

Has any others noticed this sort of coloring of CC silver coins...? Sort of a greenish grey ,sometimes brownish grey.... in color. Especially on circulated coins.

It's a real Perty, @CircCam . The dark areas have a nice blue hue to them.
I have trouble capturing the in hand look especially on circulated silver.
