This forum lists twenty threads on the main page. Tonight I noticed that all twenty were added to in the last five hours. Threads that have not had a contribution in the last five hours are already lost on page two. So, I suggest if you want to keep up with everything but are not checking all the time (Who has time to do that?) you consider looking on the second page as well. Right now I see on page 2 some interesting threads that began this afternoon! If you have not checked since noon and only look at page 1 you will miss them entirely. This forum is so popular that more than twenty threads are active at one time. Wow! This is a great forum!
If this is a problem, we all could help the matter my avoiding unnecessary posts that result in some threads cycling back to the top and pushing other threads off the first page. I would define 'unnecessary posts' to include those stating that the poster does not know the answer, does not have a coin to show or just wants to be friendly but has nothing to say. For that purpose, we can just 'like' a previous post to be friendly or read and ignore the ones that are not something we can benefit the group by posting. We also have the option of sending friendly greetings through a private conversation where we might feel more free to say what needs to be said but would be of no interest to anyone else. The newest members may not yet be able to initiate a conversation but they can receive them from others who have been here a few days and have met the requirements. Coin clubs, online or face to face, always suffer from difficulty meeting the needs of those join for the 'coin' part and those just looking for a 'club'. One local club near me meets in an Italian restaurant with so many members there for the food that they hardly have time for the coin discussions. Coin Talk has become what it is from being useful to a certain number of posters. As we fail to meet those desires, our numbers will dwindle to the point that posts will stay high for weeks. It will be what we make it.
Thanks for that reminder. My thread is one that got bumped to the second page with little participation. @Valentinian I would especially like your opinion on whether my Constantine control mark is a cross or an X since I know you have an interest in Christian symbols as well.
If many are like me they started on CoinTalk in US Coins or Bullion and were drawn to the Ancients out of curiosity. CT Ancients will probably continue to grow steadily because this forum is full of so many helpful veteran collectors. It’s easy to ask questions without feeling inferior. They come for the US coins and stay for the ancients.
