This is a PL right?? There's a lot of noise, but it's definitely NOT polished or cleaned. The interesting thing that I've noticed is that the PL Columbians have this yellowish tint to them for some reason. Given that and the obvious mirroring, right when I saw this coin, I knew it was PL. I can also read text from more than 2" away easily. It'll be on my next submission to NGC when I get enough coins to submit. And, I think that it'll grade as this: Spoiler MS-61 PL Here's my other PL Columbian, graded by NGC as MS-61 PL:
My camera has a very strange effect on coins though I bet it's just my setup. Here's another photo of the NGC coin and it looks similar to the amount of noise on the raw one, yet it received a straight grade.
Nice cherrypick!! I think you'll get the PL designation. I have a few coins I'm getting ready to send to NGC as well. Among the coins is a 1969-D Kennedy Half that I am confident will get the PL designation.
Yes, I think this is PL. And I agree with your grade. As you are probably starting to realize, low grade PL Columbians are rather common. There are 77 1892s graded 60-62 (out of a total 408 in all grades), and 55 1893s graded 60-62 (out of 222 in all grades). Because of the low value of these (around $100), I suspect that many, many more have not been submitted. Still a cool find, however!
I think my NGC graded one is a proof strike, or a proof die used to strike a business PL, since it has the same proof die diagnostics. And, I got the raw one (doesn't seem to have matching proof die diagnostics) for $30!
