i am considering buying a Minelab 705 metal detector. I currently am using a Ace 400 with a Dietech coil. Can anyone other than u-tube tell me if they have experience with the Minelab 705. Paddyman I believe runs a Minelab, and his input would be a help. Is the 705 comparable to the 400. thanks for any help.
Good question. Minelab and Garret are 2 different machines operating in 2 different styles of signals. Ace 400 is great. I don't know much about the Minelab 705. I went for the better CTX 3030. If I find out I will inform you.
I knew you were running the ctx, but that is a little out of my price range. I love detecting, and will probably will hit the beach tomorrow at low tide, after the storm has passed. I live in Mass. Newburyport area, right near the ocean, and 5 minutes from NH. I just don't trust a lot of crap on u-tube. I am looking for an upgrade from the 400, and have been looking at the Minelab units. Thanks for any help Paddy.
If you are planning on beach hunting, I would take a look at the new Minelab Equinox detectors. Multi frequency which is supposed to be good on salt water beaches, and they have beach modes.

That’s a nice machine that you are looking at , however it is more suitable for dirt or dry sand hunting . If you are planning to regularly hunt wet sand then you need to upgrade higher I’m afraid to tell you . Good luck in your hunting ..
If you can find an excellent condition ML Sovereign gt or Excal II then I would go that route if beach hunting us going to be your primary hunting grounds .
I have a ML Explorer SE, and it does wonderfully in the wet salt sand of the Florida Gulf Coast. I would go with a Minelab over a Garrett any day.
Going to be dirt hunting 90% of the time, and the beach 10%. Only good time to do the beach is after a storm at low tide. Around here it seems everyone has a machine and is on the beach.
Lots of good upgrade options. I just got one of the new Equinox 600's, but weather hasn't cooperated to try it out much yet.
The AT series is Garrett's most popular line, the Max is the latest offering. Should be a very good detector.
If that are your main hunting parameters then I would suggest ML EXPORER SE, GARRETT AT or a used by Excellent condition ML Etrac .. Remember you get what you pay for and in the long run those machines pay for themselves . I’ve seen killer dirt hunters using the ML Explorer SE I’ve been hunting off and on for 40 years, so one thing I do have is experience in case you wanted to know . Buy something that you will enjoy hunting with, that’s not too heavy and has an ease of use . Good luck man
There are so many great used machines out there, because many buy them thinking they will be finding gold bullion every day .. lol Reality sets in or other issues and they quickly become discouraged making many available on the market . If you can affford the SE then I would go that route . I’ve seen very few repair issues with that model . SHOP AROUND !! Call every reputable dealer for the best price on the machine and don’t get caught up on all of the throw in stuff to try and sweeten the package . You need the MACHINE. The other stuff you can pick up cheap
That's not totally true.. When I was ready to purchase my AV Minelab CTX 3030 my first website had the machine for $2500.00 with no free items. The website I decided to purchase from had the same price plus a pinpointer, extra coil, and gloves all for free. So sometimes it is considered a sweet deal!
