You know, I can see your point. I think you might have gone a little overboard on it, but I appreciate the point of view. A couple things: I think you mean indifference to the coin collecting future. If I didn’t already have 3-4 Whitman albums of 1941-1974 (dates are close) and starting 1959, I might be more concerned. I’ve already donated a couple of those albums to coin dealers to hand out to kids who come by. These coins are far more common than those silver coins melted down. Also, I’m selling to a coin dealer, not a scrap dealer. I’m not certain these non-wheat cents are worth the outcry you’re giving.

I’m assuming this was an effort to be funny in using sense and cents? I don’t understand why you felt a personal attack was appropriate. If you bothered to read the whole original post, you’d know I can turn these in for a 5% fee. I also have a firm offer to sell copper cents for 1.6x face. That means that without a single copper cent being found, as long as my purchase price is under 5%, I at least break even. Assuming only a 10% copper cents found, I make almost $100 on that part. That would mean that if I paid exactly face value and had 10% copper, I break even. Frankly, I think you should’ve done a little more math before trying to insult me. I’m happy with this purchase and look forward to searching these coins.

 

Thanks for taking the time to fill in the rest of your story. It sounds like you have been quite generous with your extra inventory, and if the coins are going to a coin dealer, they may just be available to spark someone else's budding interest. Hearing the whole story always make me give not so much cryout.

 

You’re welcome. I’ll toot my own horn for a second, but I’ve also donated almost 1,000 extra world coins to a Boy Scout Troop that allowed 15 of them to get their coin collecting merit badge. I’m definitely a supporter of young numismatics (being under 40, I sometimes still feel like one). I respect your position, but think that these have such high mintages, they’re going to be around for a long while.

What do I have to be angry about? You have so little information to form your opinion. You don’t know what I paid for them. You clearly don’t realize I’m in the military and have access to a bank that lets me dump coins for 5% fee. You have really made up your own scenario and are way off base. I will be making money off of this purchase. Please inform yourself before insulting others.
