Absolutely, that one is better than the other one. (Note: either may be inserted into either end of that statement )

Yes... both wonderful coins and I would be content and happy with the example that I can afford.

Hello - your link does not seem to work? Perhaps it is due to the recent changes on the Forvm site? I will try again in a few days... thank you

If my Maximian's Moneta had as much detail to the scale and the proper hand holding technique like yours, it would be the perfect coin. I really like those little details on your Diocletian Moneta.

That said, Maximian was a much more handsome fella than Diocletian.

Belatedly, I wish you a warm welcome both to the world of ancient coin collecting and to CoinTalk's Ancient Coin board.

I hope your journey with these fascinating little pieces of history is rewarding and educational.

    BTW, great first coin!

Welcome! Your Trajan is a handsome denarius, and a very respectable first step into the hobby.

WELCOME @Clavdivs ! And great start to your Ancients collection with that fantastic Trajan Denarius!

I am more focused on the BCE and Roman Republic Era!

I BELIEVE this is my first Denarius. I was particularly attracted to the Janus Head as it is the typical symbolism of the Early Republic:

Here is one of my Trajan Denarius:

And this is one of my favorite MARS coins from Rome. It is Rome's FIRST SILVER DENARIUS:

If anyone else mentioned this, I overlooked it: with a username like @Clavdivs, it seems rather mandatory that you add a coin of that emperor, yes?

A denarius would be a bit more challenging, but his bronzes are affordable, and a bronze as can be had for a reasonable price.

Here is the example I had when I was a novice Roman collector in 2007-08.

    RS010-Claudius.JPG

And the one I subsequently had in my 2011-13 Twelve Caesars collection.

    TC05-Claudius-014000-frame.jpg

Both were $100-ish coins, as I recall, so middling examples, perhaps. But I've seen Claudius Æs for as little as $7-10 In junkbox condition, and some acceptable to decent ones under a hundred bucks.

And since we're talking Trajan, here is my first denarius from him. (Image was done on a flatbed scanner, so not ideal).

Good luck in whatever you pursue. You're off to a nice start.

Then there's Claudius II "Gothicus", of course.

@PlanoSteve & @TIF - I'm totally on board with the philosophy on @PlanoSteve's coffee mug avatar.

In fact, I think I will do that very soon.

    We should have a party

    take a nap

    form a club

form a club and then take a nap. :)

PS- Flash is totally on board with that plan.

Yes LordMarcoven.. I have certainly have been watching out for the right opportunity to grab a Claudius bronze - those are great examples. I have some bids out there on the current FSRobinson auction on some unrelated roman coins... will see how those bids pan out first. If I bid on anything else at the moment the wife may pull the internet cable..lol
