Today I bought several new coins, and I picked up a couple that I had won in an auction the week before. Here they are, tell me how I did and help me grade 'um. First, We have an 1803 Large Cent (I mentioned this in another thread) I bought him for 78.75. Give me some opinions on grade for this one (by the way, the date isnyt showing up very well in the picture, but is very easy to see when looking at the coin in hand) Next Up is an 1857 Flying Eagle Cent. I picked this one up for 12.00. What would you grade it? Next is 1853 Half Dime, I payed 12.00 dollars for this one. What grade would you assign? I also picked up a 2004 Monkey Lunar One Ounce dollar coin for 24.00, a 2007 silver american eagle for 18.00 and a 1986 Statue of liberty comm. half dollar. Then, in a raffle, I won a 1971 Proof Set!! thanks guys, monkeyman
New Pics the first coin is much better than the picture shows. Here are some better pics please give me a new grade
that new pic helped out a lot didnt it! Also, could anyone tell me if this is a small of large fraction, I think that it is a large date, but I cant figure out the fraction size. thanks monkeyman
Okay after staring at this enough I think the 1803 is F details and a S-261 which I believe is R-2(you can check heritage). It looks like a blunt one on the obverse so that makes it small date and large fraction. I also think I see the defect on the forehead. Then F on the flying eagle and G on the half dime.
Numismedia lists the 1803 Large Cent (small date, large fraction) at $77 for VG and $174 for F. So at $78 you paid Very Good money for the coin. So, whether or not you got a good deal depends on what "net" grade you feel the coin to be.
