Heres an 1872 Indian Head Cent on Ebay right now that I thought I'd have you guys check out. Look at the "2" in the date. Something seems funny there and with the rest of the coin as far as that goes. Tell me what you think. http://cgi.ebay.com/1872-Indian-Cen...ryZ41085QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Well it could be the lighting that makes it look washed out - no matter what I think someone just overpaid for a coin. It looks legit to me, but the lighting on the coin and carbon spotting would certainly keep me from bidding. It still might be a nice coin - I did by one coin from this dealer and according to his grade it was a 64, but I thought 62/63 with it in hand.
Is it really uncirculated? I'm not sure it is. Is the discoloration on the high spots wear or is that just toning caused by poor handling?
Good point - to me it looks like carbon spots, but I am sure it could be caused by something I do not know about. The shield does look weak - other than that I can't tell.
At best it has ben cleaned -- the color is unnatural. At worst it is counterfeit. I'd be very, very careful purchasing this coin uncertified....Mike
But look at the "2" in the date. Doesnt it look a bit odd? Its different than the other digits, as in it looks like its tilted back a little and not as bold. I surely wouldnt have spent the money for it.
1901 Penny ? I have a 1901 US imdian head penny and am wondering what they might go for? Has not been cleaned looks original
I recommend starting a new thread and including the best possible pictures of the coin. As for this 1872 - the two does look funny, but with the lighting and glare I can not see enough to make a guess.
