I've been wanting to buy one of these coins for some time now. Finally had the money to get one.

    Lesbos (Mytilene) El Hekte
    377-326 BC
    Obv: head of Apollo right
    Rev: Lyre
    2.56g
    9mm

Ended up settling on this coin because of the detail, and the Lyre on the reverse (which I didn't see much of in the choices). I am impressed by the detail on a coin as old as this, and by how accessible ancient Greek gold is.

That's a great coin! Apparently a huge hoard is being slowly released to the market. Definitely on my wish list.

Nice example Ancient Aussie, these Mytilene EL coins have so many themes to collect. Sadly the Staters are pricey....

Yea, the Staters are definitely out of my price range, which is why I went for this

It is one of my favorite series of coins. The towns of Mytilene and Lesbos had an agreement to issue electrum in alternate years. First of all, of course, was the continuation of electrum on its own merits long after Croesus (Kroisos) first struck coins of just silver and just gold. We forget too easily that electrum continued for hundreds of years thereafter... and, truthfully, even into modern times. The series ran for over 150 years. You would have to be very wealthy to pursue it completely, but you can find very many very nice examples, whatever your collecting interests. For the modest collector, one (maybe two) will be wonderful additions to your own museum.

I see what you did there.... :D

Yea, this definitely won't be a series in its own right. Rather, it is a lovely "centerpiece" (albeit very tiny) addition to my ancient Greek coin collection
