I got this silver coin today from a trusted dealer. I feel it's genuine and somewhat important. The figure on obverse doesn't look strange to me and I recall seeing a similar face on this site. It weighs 3.5 g. Please post your views and similar coins if you like.
Well... Although those scans are almost useless, the coin looks very porous and "soapy", making it suspicious for a cast. The obverse is probably Apollo. The reverse is a fast biga with charioteer. Hard to see, but it looks like ΦΙΛΙΠ(ΠοΥ) at the top, so it's trying to be a Philip of Macedon. Philip II? Philip III? Not sure it matters because I don't think this was issued in silver (and the size is weird). Gold, yes. The style is not good though. Maybe I'm wrong about the iconography but I still don't think this is an ancient coin. Charles, do you ever buy from CNG, Vcoins, or other dealers proven to be reputable and knowledgable? Perhaps you should look into that.
Before I go to bed I'll post this last one. In case it's suspicious I shall turn them back and never buy from my country any more. Sorry ..
Yes, return that one too. Buy some nice (and authentic) coins from Ken Dorney, Valentinian, John Anthony, etc
Bad fakes/ they should go into another profession. On the otherhand/ there are "experts" in this line of work, their workmanship is so good, even auction firms, third party graders like PGGS/ NGC are fooled. The Roman Republic AV Aureus of Ahenobarbus/ NFA sure looked like real McCoy.
