I picked this one up from Naumann auction #62 - a totally random purchase but what appealed to me was the reverse. A nice seated Zeus with a little owl as a companion and an absolutely tiny legend (which is pretty much complete) crammed onto a 17mm coin.

I don't have any provincial coin references so I have to go with the seller's attribution on this one. Assuming we can believe the internet, this coin was issued by the priestess Julia Severa and her son L. Servenius Capito (whose names appear in the reverse legend) as part of the dedication of buildings they donated to the city, even though the coin makes no mention of the event.

I don't know how common coins of Acmonea are but let's try for Acmonea or failing that provincials of Nero!

Very appealing! I've only seen a few coins from Acmoneia posted here on CoinTalk.

I was at work so my above post was on the quick side.
@TTerrier I have a couple of Nero provencials from Phrygia with simular reverses but different obverses (which someday I will get around to snapping photo's) the above photo and coin are courtesy JA.
I had been searching for this coin for some time when I saw it in one of John Anthonys auctions last year.
What drew me to it was an example I had seen browsing the internet here. The coin in the link is a better example than either of us have but are the only three I have ever seen.

Nice coins everyone. It seems the Acmoneia coins are somewhat scarce - a really nice specimen linked to by @Smojo above.

Can anyone recommend a book (or books) that give a historical survey of all these provincial cities? It doesn't have to include any coin references but more on the history side.

    Thanks
