Found this guy browsing around and I would like yall's opinons on it. I don't know what to really think of it. It is really priced affordably, but don't want to end up with a cleaned or something wrong with it example. All help will be appreciated, here are the pics: Thanks! Phoenix
That looks like a really nice lincoln right there. I dont think its cleaned. It has a nice tone to it and has some sharp details. Id call it XF to AU. Would you care if I asked whats the asking price??? Im in the market for a 31s of similar grade myself.
i have no idea what is it grade but it doesnt look cleaned and that is one hell of a nice coin and i dont even like the lincoln cent design
I think it's an AU. Problem is you can't tell if it's been cleaned from the image. You won't know until you get it in hand, and maybe not even then. I had 2 coins body bagged by NGC for being cleaned. If it had been abrasive cleaning I probably would have spotted it. But I'm going to have to take these to a pro and get him to show me the diagnostics.
Phoenix: High grade, probably AU-50. However, that said, (it seems that there is always a 'however') I do think that it has been cleaned and is retoning. why? It is just too pinky in color for me. But, I have been wrong before. (Just ask my wife).
High end AU, but like TreasureHunt said, cleaned. Dipped long ago. With the AU price so close to MS prices, I would hold out unless it's really bargain priced, by that I mean $70 range or so.
That's what I was thinking. The toning seemed fishy to me. It is graded by NCS too, another flag, but they do say it is artificially retoned. Or ot that affect. And no, it is not close to being a bargain, it's priced at $120. Tahnks guys! Found another place that sells them for $105 in AU. Sound fair? I think that's pretty good. DJP, pm me if you would liek the link to this coin. Thanks for the help guys! Phoenix
Bummer, because the 31-S is known to be a soft struck issue, this one is better than average in that aspect, but.......
YEah, only problem is I am not over 18, and it says you have to be 18 to register, dang nabbit. Thanks though. Phoenix
I would love to get an AU 1931-S for $85. Your price is way old or you have a source I would like to know about. Gray sheet lists $102 for a GOOD. Heritage just sold "1931-S 1C VF30 ANACS" for $103.50. Then there is the ones (plural) like pictured below. They are listed as cleaned and have sold for $140 to $225.
Man, don't care if that guys cleaned, I think that's still an attractive coin. I'd pay some decent money for it probably. Is that yours rlm? Nice. I can pick up some AUs from a place for only a $105, what does the grey sheet list it at at that price? Phoenix
No. It is not mine. nanceye913 has sold several like it. Not quite as nice, this - 1931-S - just sold tonight for $120.50. The gray sheet lists AU at $125.
Mostly because I need the practice taking pictures, this is my 1931-S. Hoping itis 64 RB, but it is most likely 63.
Let me clarify my statement. To buy a dipped and retoned AU at a super bargain price, thats about $70 like I said. That would probably sell for about $100-$120, the coin posted. Bid ranges from $105 G4 / $125 AU 50, so where does a dipped coin fall in? I just picked up an XF 31-S AND a VF 24-D for $125 shipped, now that you can't do everyday, Rlm, you saw that one..I didn't even take time to switch to my buy account on that one. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320182467203 . Nancye913 could get upwards of $200 for a cleaned AU 31-S, I've seen it happen, over and over again. See ya got me going.....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr lol But, aside from that, compare strikes on the 2 coins pictured, Rlm is more typical of the issue, Phoenix's coin is exceptional on strike, so is the nancy coin It's hard to guess/figure what a cleaned coin is worth, it depends on the buyer and the time, there really is no telling, but with the amount of nice 31-S's out there, why buy a problem coin...unless you can really rip it, they don't resell good......that was my original point, I just didn't say it right. No harm or offense intended.
Perhap's you should look at my point of view. I "Only" buy coin's that are not cleaned for a reason. My book's, complete book's are worth more to me "Uncleaned" than cleaned. Perhap's your objective is to buy and resell, that's the feedback I'm getting from the post's. You must understand that people collect coin's for different reason's, to resell, to keep, to wait for a rainy day to put them on Ebay. Your coin is cleaned. Value 85.00. Value decreases in my book when one is filling holes with what ever is out there. Rhubarb
