Here is a 1925-P Peace Dollar with relatively HTF VAM. Test your VAM knowledge with a shot at this variety. Take Care Ben
i just cant garner a guess at any VAM, i barely know enough to spell VAM.... but that aside... it is a very nice looking coin!
A SWAG just because I saw one that said die gouges above "in" - VAM 1C. Of course I have been search online, but no luck yet.
Awww man - I was basing the VAM number off this auction at ebay. Did someone on ebay list it incorrectly - I am stuned.
Bone, I assume that you are referring to VAM-9A with the Die Gouges above "IN" but the Die Gouge above the "N" is further to the right than the one on VAM-1B! Also, there is a faint Die Gouge below the left side of the "O" in "GOD" and the right Reverse has doubling. Well with the pics, the faint Die Gouge below the left side of the "O" and the doubling on the right Reverse, can't be made identified. Unless I am seeing things, the font of the "E" is smaller than the "O" and "N" of "ONE" on the Reverse! Frank
I can't tell the difference between the 1B and 9A. Supposedly they both used the same obverse die. Reverses are different. The reverse on the 9A should have slight doubling on the right side of the rays over LAR. Here are some close-ups my 1925-P 1B. I noticed a small die scratch and small die crack on the reverse near the leaves. Check your coin for these attributes. Maybe it's an easier way to distinguish between 1B and 9A.
Corrected..... nesvt, On Bones' 1925-P Peace Dollar, the right Die Gouge is further to the right than it is on your VAM-1B! If you look close, it looks almost like an extension of the upper left portion of the "N" and is the same as the VAM-9A. I could not see a Die Crack on the Olive Leaf Southsouthwest of the "O" in "DOLLAR" on the Reverse as at 100 to 200% zoom, the pictures becomes too distorted. Frank
jon67, Instead of me trying to explain what a VAM is, just go to the link below for a more detailed an authoritive definition! http://www.vamsandmore.com/main.html Frank
'V'ariety 'A'tributed 'M'organs? ok, before everyone screams ... i know its not that, it just what always comes to mind when i see VAM
I ask you guys to hang on for a bit or a day or two. As you may have seen in another post I lost all electronic documentation of my collection and the coins are in a jumble, so... She is in a simple 2x2 flip and I have to FIND it, LOL. Ben
ok i get it its a cross of the peace and morgan dollar designs thus called that because of the designers last names Leroy Van Allen and George T. Mallis. thanks for the info. i have a 1922 s are there any vam's in that year or anything special i need to look for to make it more valuable
Bone, I will haul them off for you but I sure as hell ain't going to help you organize them!:headbang: Frank
