I have a site on the quadrans and semis denominations: http://augustuscoins.com/ed/quadrans/ which I have announced here before in a thread where members showed some of their quadrantes: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/the-quadrans-denomination.305762/ I just added this semis to it: Hadrian (117-138) 18-16 mm. Semis. 2.54 grams. HADRIANVS AVGVSTVS COS III around head of Zeus Ammon right [much corrosion] Sear II --. van Heesch 188-190 (pdf page 294). The site gives an overview of the quadrans and semis denominations of the first and second centuries AD. It has numerous images and the thread cited above has more. Show us any other quadrantes or semisses you have!
THAT is a great Semis @Valentinian ! I really enjoy the education you put out in your Site... fun stuff! I learn a lot about areas of collecting that I am weak (particularly the Imperial period). I regret that I do not have Quadrantes nor Semises from the Imperial Period. My few are from the Republic and their Provinces or spheres of influence... Nice OP Semis, notice a large weight discrepancy between that one and Andres2 Hadrian Semis. I only have one............and you guessed it yet another architecture, an Augustus Semis minted Lyon, ca 10-14, 18mm, 5.27gm, Altar of Lyon...RIC 234,
Hi Valentinian, When I first started collecting imperil quadrans 15 years ago, I really enjoyed finding your reference site. I now have quite a large collection but no photos handy. When did James lamb sell his collection? Did it go to auction? I really like your cappadocia Hadrian quadrans. These are very hard to find and one I still don’t have. For those that don’t know, the van heesch thesis is by far the best listing of the anonymous quadrantes out there. The these plates alone are are also spectacular. Any one interested in this denom should down load the thesis. Aleph My anonymous qs gallery at forum. I now have many more since the last update, but this is a good selection. http://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=5335
I just browsed your Forum galleries. What an amazing specialty collection (collections) you have! That Minerva/olive tree quadrantes is wonderful!
@Aleph , your collection is outstanding. I put a link (the first link!) to it on the "references" page: http://augustuscoins.com/ed/quadrans/QuadransReferences.html James Lamb wrote a good article on quandrantes, but I don't know anything about the disposal of his collection.
