My grandmother has some silver DOUBLE HEADED Kennedy half dollars. I have been unable to find anything to place a value on those on the internet, and have not gone to a coin shop. Does anyone have any idea what these coins may be worth? I think they are 1964.

It is extremely likely that the coins you mention are novelty coins. They have no value to speak of and can be purchased from many companies for $1 or $2.

While they are indeed novelty coins, examples made in Silver do tend to attract a slight premium over modern examples. :) I would estimate the coins value to be between $3.00 and $5.00 today.I feel they should easily sell on ebay for $5.00 if your Grandmother should decide to sell them. They are called "flipper's" and made from two genuine Half Dollar's. These coins are intended as cheat coins for the coin toss. ~ Jim

I have several 1964 double headed Kennedy silver half dollars as well. The man who gave them to my grandmother in the late 70’s worked at the Denver mint. He claimed they were rare and to never say where she got them from. The ones I have are in mint uncirculated condition still at n the little individual pouches. So I too would love to have someone who is a true coin collector and examine the coins and then tell me they are fake. They don’t have the D or the P stamped under the date.

1964 Kennedy half dollars had the mintmark on the reverse (not under the date on the obverse) and there was no "P".

Post pics. 99.999999999999% chance that it's not a mint error. More like 1:1,000,000,000.

You can post photos, here, but it is doubtful that they came from the Denver Mint like that.

In all likelihood, they are "Magicians Coins". The rim of one coin is cut away using a lathe, and the area inside the rim is cut away on a second coin. Then, the coin without a rim is inserted into the second coin.

It would be next to impossible for this to reveal itself in a photo if it is done properly, but you should be able to see a seam along the inner edge of the rim with a microscope under higher magnification.

Ok, is there one full size head on both sides, no normal eagle. Or is there the normal size large head with a smaller outline of Kennedy on the same side? This second type was made outside the mint as a novelty with a off-mint made punch like they put the outline of a state on a coin. Jim

There are also gold-plated Kennedy half dollars that have Lincoln's head stamped to the left of JFK's face. I remember seeing them at shows when I was a kid. If I recall correctly, these Lincoln-Kennedy coins were attached to a card with a write-up about the two presidents. I've seen a few in Kennedy rolls in recent years. But, I've never seen a double Kennedy "Flipper" coin. I'd love to see pictures too!

They do, at least the later clad ones do.

Well, I'm of the opinion that the coins need to be examined or photographed and posted.

I'd definitely keep one if I found one roll hunting. I would assume they would be easy to spot even edge roll hunting.
