Excited to say I'll be going to another Wasatch Winter Coin Show tomorrow...even if ancients are in only about 5 of the 60 booths there (when you live in a desert you can't complain when someone offers you water, even if only a couple of drops).
And boy-O they are making a big deal about ANACS being there.
I do have 4 coins that I would like them to verify but it isn't cheap so I figured I would show them to you all to see if you think it wise for me to spend my hard earned, and limited, cash on getting these items verified. So if something jumps out at you as an obvious fake or really real, please don't hold back.
Also, I would appreciate all of your opinions on ANACS and grading and verification in general?
The 1st 3 coins (Tiberius, Pertinax and Didius Julianus) I purchased off of ebay, hence my concern. And the Marius (the blacksmith, not Julius Caesar's uncle) I got from V coins.
    Here they are...

Tiberius Denarius (tribute penny). 19MM, 3.45 gr.

    Pertinax Denarius. 19 MM

    Didius Julianis Denarius. 19 MM

Marius Denarius. 18 MM. 2.47 gr

Some fun coins for sure...but are they real?
Are they worth spending the dough on getting authenticated??
And is ANACS who I want to pay to tell me these things???
As always, your help is very appreciated.

Does ANACS authenticate? I don't know. But when I send a coin off for authentification, I send to David Sear in California. Of the coins you present above, perhaps the only one worth the $50 plus postage charge is the Pertinax. The others look too worn for your purchase plus authentification charges IMHO.

!. I know that NGC certifies ancients.
    2. ICG and ANACS formerly certified ancients. ICG no longer does.
    3. I don't know if ANACS does. Please let us know.
    4. Unless ANACS is at a major show, they only have folks that accept coins. Their actual graders/authenticators are usually not at the small shows table. There may be an exception. So, IMO anything they tell you is well...Shall I say "not official."
    5. The ONLY major TPGS that has a professional grader/authenticator giving free opinions at EVERY show they attend is ICG.
    6. IMO, nothing you have posted is worth having slabbed. Enjoy the "feel" of them in hand and learn about them here. Save you grading money and buy more ancients!

I'm no expert, so take what I say with a pinch of salt. Forget about the grading at great cost. Rely, instead, on knowledgeable friends. Save your grading money and buy more ancients !!!

I don't see any red flags myself, though I'll defer to the majority here, who are more knowledgeable than I. Nice tuff stuff, if a bit ruff! Some scarce names, there!

They all look authentic to me, and gives you the opportunity to buy some rare pieces for a good price. Pertinax and Didius are expensive in the higher grades. I have neither of those dudes yet. Marius is a bit on the expensive side as well, but the photo you show depicts an antoninianus, not a denarius.

Thank you very much for taking a look. That's great to read. Derp. Good catch on the Marius. It was getting late and I wanted to get this posted in time to get everyone's feedback. Thanks again!

Well that settles it. I wanted to take these in to get them verified as authentic but have decided not to waste the money when they pass my in hand test and all your picture test. I was not so much interested in taking them in for the grading (partially cause I realize they are on the low end of the spectrum and partially cause who cares?! They are fun to me as they are).
Thanks everyone for the info. Now I'm off to hopefully buy a cool coin or 2!

I am afraid that the three coins are in such a bad shape that it is not possible to determine whether they are authentic. Not worth expertize them. Sad cases...

PMONNEY, posted: I am afraid that the three coins are in such a bad shape that it is not possible to determine whether they are authentic." :arghh::wacky::confused::rolleyes:

While this statement may be perfectly true for you and the OP, I think there may be some folks (not me :muted:) who just might be more qualified to post an opinion that disagrees with yours.

They are all authentic to me, even Didius show a crystallized silver so It looks good to me. Tiberius and Pertinax have a convincent wearing.

Like @Bing said maybe you send one to David Sear. Glad the 3rd parties aren’t getting your cash!

Sear would certainly be one of the most respected opinions around.
