Why Denver minted coins are not exported?

Well, I'm from Puerto Rico (US territory), here I cannot find any coin from that Mintage from 1990 to present only older ones (and not so easy). Someone knows why all the "D" coins are kept on the states?

    Thanks,

    Ivan

    Well, you're not alone, Ivan.
It takes a couple of years for Denver coins to begin circulating in my part of the country, too. LOL

Our problem is, that the Federal Reserve banks, on the East Coast, order their new coins from the Philadelphia Mint. Therefor, the only Denver coins, that we are likely to come across, are those that have been supplied to armored car companies, which supply our local banks with coins that have been counted and wrapped, from circulation.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot Jody, that really helps understanding better how this works...another q for you friend. I don't know where you lives but here Kennedy halfs are not used, they dont circulate, but does banks still have rolls of them? also how many 50cents are on a roll?

    Thanks again. ;)

    Ivan,

I live in SWC Virginia. Kennedy halves don't circulate here, either, although I can often get them from my local banks, if I request them.

There are 20 coins in each roll.

Nice, thanks Jody...more q's...hope you don't mind...I don't want to open new threads...because though I havent find the info...I know that it has to be somewhere and I don't want to make another thread of the same ol' q. ;)

    1) about that bank rolls of 50cents...usually (where you live) they have them there or they order them for you and you get them a few days later or something like that?

    2) about the Jef. nickel, I've been looking info...as we all know changes (radical IMHO) have been into the nickels design...with all this stuff happening...is there already (I hope not!) a final date for stop minting the coin? the q is because I heard rumors that 2006 will be the last year of the 5 cent piece.

    Thanks again. :D

Here in Portland, OR, we generally only see Denver mint coins in circulation.

The 2006 nickel will retain the new obverse and have a different reverse. The Jefferson theme will be retained. The old style Jeffs are already an obsolete coinage.

    Ivan,

Sometimes my local banks will have a few rolls of halves in stock. If not, they will order them, if someone requests them. Not sure how long it would take for them to arrive, but only a few days, I suspect.

There are no plans to discontinue issuing the 5 cent nickel coin. Depictions of Thomas Jefferson, and his home (Montecello), will return to the designs in 2006

You need to get more tourists from the West Coast states. :D

Look for some of the circulated "D" coins I left in San Juan a few years ago when I was there meeting a cruise ship. :p

Since I live in Colorado, getting Denver mint coins isn't a problem. Nine out of 10 in my pocket change are "D" mint. My problem is finiding "P" and "S" to complete collections from circulation.

Although JFK halves don't usually circulate, I did receive two at WalMart the other day.

    :)

Since the San Francisco mint has produced only proofs for a number of years, everyone has a problem finding "S" coins from circulation. ;)

    Ivan,

I was in San Juan last Easter and went to the casinos. When I was about to leave I bought a few rolls of quarters to take back to NY with me. I was surprised and pleased to see that most of the quarters were D mintmarks. If you're near SJ try the casinos.

Nice man! thanks I'll try that one! A q about casinos...I only go to the...slot machines and use 5c or 25c..I'm not a casino fan...just enjoy being there so I try to save money as much as I can...and don't care if I win or lose...don't really play a lot either (about 20 bucks)..., what coin or token casinos use for the $1 machines?...never wondered until now...

    Half Dollars

    Hi Ivan,

The mint is not releasing new half dollars. The release since 2001 has only been in mint sets and by $100.00 bags that you can buy from the mint for $135.00. Before the CW forum closed I began buying a bag each year and then offering them to the forum members at face value plus postage, limited to one set per person. This was helping people get them for their collection.

I'm not sure if the directors of the Coin Talk forum will let me do that on this forum. When the mint is ready for release I will ask them.

    Thanks Catman, so far I'm only collecting 90%, 40% silver...and low mintage dates...like the 1970 and 1999 (if I remember right). :)

That kind of thing is exactly what the Open Forum is all about. ;) :)

I used to get a pretty decent mix of P's and D's here in Indiana, probably 60/40. But now all I see are P's! I can count on one hand the number of TX-D and IA-D I've seen here, and I've yet to see any WI-D. Got the P's coming out my ears, but no D's! :(

As far as banks being able to order coins for customers, I can say from my experience that some banks are not allowed to order coins. We have to use what comes in from the customers. Anyone wanting rolls might want to call the bank first and ask how they get their coins.

    Good advice, Kyra. :)

I wasn't aware that some banks operated that way. :(

Yeah thanks Kyra, I will call before doing the 20+ people row for nothing! lol and then having people looking me like a weirdo for ordering coins from a bank isntead of the normal stuff! haha lol :D
