Check out this Morgan....whats your guess on the grade designated by NGC? I'll post the NGC Grade in two days!
With the disclaimer that the pics aren't large enough for me to be confident, I'd guess (at least) 65 Prooflike...Mike
The obverse looks fully DMPL...can't tell for sure on the reverse but my guess is that it's a MS65DPL.
MS65PL Wow...I tried a guess the grade :O There appears to be a hit just south east of the P in plurbis on the obverse, and maybe a little haze bilaterally off of the lower wings on the reverse. The reverse haze I see may be the slab or lighting too tho.
I would say a MS-66 PL IMO. Beautiful coin to say the very least, what keeps it from a 67 IMO is the hit on the chin, and a light hit or two very hard to see in the pic, but overall one of the best Morgan's I have seen. Beautiful coin. :thumb: Phoenix
I would call it MS65 DPL. Great coin. I think they might grade it MS65 DPL. That's a piece of work, right there. Gotta love those PL Morgans !
Looks like a real nice coin - sharp strike, nice luster - I will go out on a limb and grade it higher than everyone else - MS-67.
I've had and sold several 67's, they don't just give those away, but I would not at all be suprised, it deserves it if anything does, but I'm stickin to the 66*:kewl:
This coin illustrates why I absolutely suck at grading Morgans. I would say MS-67 DMPL, but I fear that NGC said 65 PL or something ridiculous like that.
Ben: But, realize that I suck at defining the thin line for some of these grades. Like MS-65.234556264626. Another that gets to me is the MS-63.56684999. Just can't figure those out.
Ok...so I said I would wait two days before letting you all know the grade. I must say I was rather impressed by everyone's guesses. However, the ones who said MS65 PL were the closest. The actual Grade was MS65 * PL. I might have paid a little bit of a high price for it ($265) but sometimes that happens when you buy the coin and not the holder. Besides, I'm not a Morgan collector, I just wanted a high quality example with eye appeal to be represented in my collection.
My opinion that is a candidate for an upgrade, easily a 66, must also be more PL than the pics show. Your price? high for the holder, but bargain on the coin. easily a 66
Got the *, I'll wager, because it is more cameoed on the obverse than the reverse. Kind of like a DMPL on the obv and PL on the reverse, so they gave it a *. See it from time to time. Nice coin again....mike
