Hello everyone. I am very new to the coin collection world so please excuse me if I do not properly articulate my points. That being said I was told recently that I should look into checking out 2 coins that I have. 1. WYOMING 1890 the front has a dark line going from the left of the "U" in United that travels across the head of Washington thru to the "A" in Dollar at the bottom right. On the back the right side of the coin is flat and faded to the point where the cowboy is missing his right side, the horse its missing it's neck and I cannot make out the missing words/letters on the right of the coin. 2. 1966 Coin has No Mint Mark and seems to have a bit of an "imprint" of a circle from the bottom of "In God We Trust" to the "L" in Liberty. Then from the "Y" in Liberty to the bottom of Washington's hair. Again, Please excuse my lack of using the correct terminology to describe the information. I'm hoping your experience can help me figure out if I have something(s) of value. Thank you for your time and patience and I apologize if my photo quality is Trash
Both are slightly damaged, and are not errors. The 1966 Quarter has those lines on it from a counting machine; The back of the Wyoming quarter is scratched, and the obverse side is either stained, or has the same type of damage. They didn't leave the Mint like that - sorry
The OP has admitted that he is new to the hobby. Why not use a little less sarcasm to explain to the OP that this is a state quarter and that 1890 happens to be the year that Wyoming became a state? Welcome to the neighborhood @Dun Milhouse ! Chris
Welcome to CT. The reverse of the coin could also suffer from something people here call a Grease Filled Die (although it could be anything that fills it) where the die has some contaminant that keeps it from having the full design. Although a grease filled die is a mint error, it isn't particularly rare or worthwhile.
That's easy. Put it in it's own thread with pictures. We'll tell you it's from a grease filled die, is common, and it's worth 25 cents.
General circulation Quarters didn't have mint marks on them 1965 through 1970, possibly later. They are clad too.
Hi I am also quite new to numismatic terminology. My question actually is would a grease filled die account for A's on the reverse having no definition in the center where there should be the small triangle? I have a 1966 with that error. Thanks
