I recently purchased a coin as "Byzantine Bronze Coin - PALAIOLOGOS c. 1100 AD" My research tells me that if the 'PALAIOLOGOS' (family) reference is correct then the date must be wrong because the dates that I have found for that family are, Emperor 1261-1282 Michael VIII 1282-1328 Andronikos II Palaiologos, 1328-1341 Andronikos III, 1347-1357 John VI Kantakouzenos, 1354-1391 John V, 1391-1420 Manuel II Palaiologos, 1420-1448 John VIII 1448-1453 Constantine XI Now I admit to knowing very little about Byzantine coins and I would like some help with this one. (I only have seller's pictures at this time.) Is it Michael VIII?
Michael VIII was the founder d. 1282. I believe yours is a Bulgarian coin though. Why did you create two threads? Bulgaria: Ivan Aleksandar (1331–1371) Æ Trachy (Raduchev & Zhekov Type 1.13.23-29) a type that is currently not in my collection. Here is one from CNG: and the Moushov plate coins:
To me it sort of looks like it might be a fake... I looked at the sellers sold items and there were many, many fakes sold by that seller. https://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&LH_Complete=1&_ssn=rancient&_sop=3&rt=nc
It probably is as the seller is a notorious fake coin peddler. The worst part of it is that this particular type is not that expensive...
