They made over half a billion 1969-S cents. 547,309,631 A quick net search shows there are around 25 of these coins. (Please correct me with the right number.) Everyone comes in here with a 1982-D small date copper, 1983-D copper, 1969-S doubled die. No one is finding any of these. Yes they are out there. Yes a new one will be discovered. But it's such a long shot it's not worth spending your whole life looking for it, or constantly posting a photo of a cent that is ALWAYS worth .01 cent. And I am not singling out the OP. The regulars know what I am talking about.
Ben, check out www.lincolncentresource.com Lots of errors and varieties on there and a good many of the postings will show you photos and what to look for. THEN when you think you find something (like you thought above), you can post the photo and ask the group specifically what you think you're seeing and why. There are a lot of guys and girls on here that have a wealth of knowledge that will help you out. Just show them you are learning in the process.
I suggest you learn what hub doubling looks like before you go searching for doubled die coins. Sooooo many people come on here posting coins from the years of major doubled dies (1969-s, 1972, 1995, etc.) but almost none of them know what doubled dies look like. I'm not saying you shouldn't check for them, but if you're going to, you should probably educate yourself as to what you're looking for. The coin you posted looks nothing like the actual 1969-s doubled die. This goes for everybody, not only the op.
You are absolutely correct. You know, I forget who referenced these sites for me (may have been @paddyman98 ?) but they have some great photos and explanations also! Machine Doubling Machine Doubling
I just meant there is so much more to the hobby, so much more enjoyment and knowledge than just trying to get rich by 1 freak coin that you have almost a zero chance of finding.
