My favorite "coin cover" books are from the old black cover Penguin Classics - below are a few (I think there are more - including a Longinius voting scene denarius). They might've changed the covers since these were originally issued in the 1960s (reprinted through the 1990s-2000s I believe).

Somebody with a bigger budget than mine should do a "Penguin Books Coin Collection" made up of the actual coins (good luck on that Byzantine Gold Medal):

I can show the first Livy book coin type and the Plutarch book coin type Cr235s1cSR112.jpg
    Sex. Pompeius, 137 BC.
She-wolf suckling twins Romulus and Remus, fig tree in background, with birds and shepherd Faustulus.
    Crawford 235/1. Sear 112.
There is too much going on in this reverse to fit it on the usual flan. The detail on the cover of the book shown by @Marsyas Mike is quite unusual. Finding one sharper than this should be easy. Finding one with all the legend on the flan is almost impossible. Even Crawford's plate coin is crowded.

    Cr433s1SR397.jpg
    M . Junius Brutus, 54 BC. Denarius.
    LIBERTAS
His ancestor, L. Junius Brutus, consul 509 BC, walking between two lictors preceded by an accensus.
    Crawford 433/1. Sear 397.
This is from is early coinage as moneyer, not from his later coinage after the assassination of Julius Caesar.

Not a book/coin pair, but perhaps this is an OK thread in which to ask @Valentinian for a book recommendation he made many threads back. I remember a thread in which Warren offered his top recommendation for a general ancient coin book, but I forgot to write down the title. I hope he sees this and reminds me what it is.

Here's something a little more on-topic. It's a great book. Alas, I wish I had the coin. Someone here probably does.

27 BC-AD 14. AR Cistophorus. Pergamum mint. Struck 27-26 BC. IMP • CAESAR, bare head right / AVGVSTVS above, sphinx seated right.

Here is a link to my page of book recommendations:

There is a significant difference between web sites and books. They address different types of information. If you just want a coin ID number, you can get along without Sear or RIC because you can find ID numbers in many places on the web. If you want to understand the development of Roman or Greek coinage, or understand Roman provincial coinage, you cannot do better than buy the books by Burnett (Coinage in the Roman World), Carradice and Price (Coinage in the Greek World), and Butcher (Roman Provincial Coins). They explain coinage in a way that web sites do not attempt. By the way, vcoins often has them for less than Amazon.

I realize Randy used the Failmezger book already but it is my best cover for this thread. The key to the cover coins as published in the book opposite the title page numbered the coins on the cover 1-20 to left to bottom right. Most coins in the book belonged to Tory but about 10% were mine slipped in since they were prettier than his example. A few made the cover including:
    #2 Anonymous Pagan #229

    #5 Divus Constantine #376
