Why do you think it is a Proof ? Based on the pics I would not, the surface is much too rough.

The very wide rims and they are not beveled. The surface isn't rough at all but more of a satiny finish. The picture wasn't the greatest. I sent this coin into NGC today. Hopefully it turns out. I put this coin on ebay raw and I had 3 offers for over 3K dollars so I stopped the bidding and sent her away!

I always believed that a matte proof should have squared rims.
Oh, well, I hope that it is a proof.

Looks like a prooflike uncirculated. Matte proofs have NO lustre....(as such)

If it turns out to be a real matte proof, be worht well more than $3000. Closer to $15-20 Grand I would say. Just my opinion, surely no expert, but I'm not sure as to call it a proof. But could be wrong. Best of luck, can't wait to hear what NGC says. :thumb:

Here is the kicker, it was with a clause that it would grade Matte PR. I think it will be a close one and who knows.

    tdec,

Can't you go to NGC's Website or call them and inquire about whether the coin has been graded yet and what grade they gave it?

The rims are squared but I could only find one die marker. The other die markers are not there. The book The complete guide to lincoln cents by David Lange says that they all do not have to be there but who knows.

Just got it back today in a bodybag, stating 1909 P VDB One Cent Artificially toned. I called NGC and the receptionist said that once they find that it has been recolored or any other damage that they stop and do not put a grade to it. they wouldn't even tell me if it was a proof or not. They said I needed to send it to NCS so off to ANACS it goes. I should have sent it to them in the first place. Oh well live and learn. We will see what they say. Wouldn't it be funny if it came back slabbed with no net grade. Tom

    Ouch, what a let down.

Coin does have a bit of pinkish look to it, ANACS would be a good choice I guess. Sorry to hear of your frustrations.
