Ok please explain how die chatter wouldn't cause JUST the mint mark to look like this! Thanks again .
Md can be found somewhere on the coin. It can be found in many areas or one spot. There's no set position. Some words like Liberty can have it on some letters and not others.
Just so I got this rite ! This is caused by die chatter ? By which we refer too as the working die, am I correct ? Die chatter is caused by a loose die? In which a worker would stop production grab his wrench and tighten?
Consider the size of the MDD, and you will see that the vibration ( chatter) wouldn't be the magnitude where most people would notice, so the small miscue would probably pass through multitudes of coins produced before it became significant.
Im only going off of what I read. If I'm correct then the last thing put onto the working die is the mint mark? (By hand Before 1989)If this is to be true then it is possible for the mm to be hand punched multiple times (John Doe) by who has never made a mistake to get the grab the rite S and hammer it into the working die the very first try . My thought is this did happen and in a bad attempt to cover it up, he gave me this find....( Two coins, two years apart with the same problem and no record of it with! Hmmmm! Sorry I mean no offense I'm just being Einstein and just have to ask questions on this one !
Yes it's possible and used to happen all of the time. What you need to understand is rpm's won't appear stacked. Like a true doubled die, the exposed extra mint marks will stick out away from the original and appear on the same level.
