How do I find out the value? Is there any guide for these?

Don't pay more than $10.00 for it!

It is the Zinc Layer. It's missing the copper.

    Ha.. True I missed that!

Only 1943 Steel Cents were Zinc Coated

No more than $10?...Ugh. Paid $45 final price. This is why I am totally giving up on varieties for good. It is just too difficult to find the right info. I read all the time and there is just too much conflicting information. I think things like this are super cool, but I am dropping out of this "errors and varieties" game.

Well, I guess I wanted to (1) make sure it was authentic and (2) figured an extra $20-25 for one already slabbed, and figured ANACS is good for varieties.

So did I really overpay that much? You can be honest, Paddyman98. I can take it.

I don't know what to say. It all depends on the person willing to buy any Mint Error. I personally have paid extra on something I really wanted. Your purchase is a rare and interesting mint error. I myself with such a large collection don't own one. Don't go crazy over your purchase.. It's yours, do what I do no matter the value.. Love, care, enjoy and keep them!

I am making a personalized, custom case of steel cents made of acrylic and resembling a capitals plastics holder. I have 3 gorgeous all MS67 and all CAC (P, D, S) which I posted earlier. I also have a nice MS65 1943 D/D I just got back. I wanted to display them, plus include a type 1 and type 2 planchet, as well as this 1995-D.

What I want to do is make a few 5x5 color museum cards on thick cardstock explaining why they made cents of steel in 1943, a blow-up and explanation of the 1943 D/D, an explanation of the 2 blanks, as well as why the 1995 looks like - but is not - steel and why it came out that way.

I am almost finished with my Henning presentation one I am making. I will be sure to show you the final product and look forward to your input. Thanks for the honesty.

    Actually it's not a layer, it's a zinc core.

Any other opinions on what I paid? Fair? Overpaid? (I paid $45)

There is no set pricing on error or variety coins. Pricing is all over the place. It may sell at auction for $10 one day and bring $45 in a different auction. Every collector or dealer is going to have a different price in mind. If you get enough people looking at a coin and more than one want's the coin, crazy things can happen.
