Hey Frank, how come you aint out diggin these up? He hits mainly old cellar hole spots in the woods. Great stuff. http://66.51.97.78/forums/md/config.pl?noframes;read=74075
Those are some nice finds! Very impressive! I would say that he did his home work. Knowing where to hunt is a big part of metal detecting. Lou
Dang, awesome man! You must be the king! :thumb: What do you do to find these things if you don't mind me asking? Very awesome and impressive! :thumb: Phoenix
cheese freakin Louise !!!! I have a lot to learn !!!!! Make my 36 cents and a button not so special now, LOL
Jack, what you need to do is move to the coins. I do not think that there are very many early US coins in Arizona. You might get lucky there and find some old Spanish coins if there are any missions in your area. Here in Oklahoma, I doubt that I could find anything before 1870 unless some Indians had coins.
PA. is one of the original 13 colonies. So yes, you could problably find some of the same type of coins as Jim has posted. Lou
There's some chance of finding older coins on the west coast. It's been settled since the 1700's and boomed in the early 1800's. The problem is, nothing out here is original. Everthing has been built and re-built a few dozen times in the past 200 years, and that kind of disturbance means finding any artifacts is remote at best. I'm always amazed every time I visit the east coast. What easterners take for granted in their architecture spanning several centuries in most communities, we never see where I'm from. I live in one of the oldest towns in CA and the oldest building we have left was built in 1908....a new structure by eastern standards. Whatever coins we have left burried in the ground will probably be left to archeologists instead of metal detectors, unfortunately, and most are probably lost forever. Guy~
Jim: If you knew anything about New Jersey you'd know why I avoid the state. Gotta wonder about them. Sorry, but toooooo nice!
I have calmed down enough to comment now. I have watched enough Sopranos DVD's to know better than go diggin aroung New Jersey. They don't call it the Garden State for nuttin yanno:kewl: In all seriousness, amazing finds. I can't believe the nice condition after all those years in the ground. I think this is going to be a great hobby !!!
Who really needs to look for coins in California when you can Nugget shoot with a metal detector in some of the old Gold Mine areas! Besides, even the old Prospectors even lost or buried coins in and around the old Gold Mine areas. Frank
Exactly, there are hundreds of old silver mines here in AZ, and there were hotels, brothels, and bars around those little towns that sprung up. I think the ferry's across the old Salt River would be a good shot as well. Relics and coins from along the Mormon trail is a good idea also. Either way, just getting out in the fresh air is great. I had to tell the wife, "No Honey, it won't find arrowheads" LOL.
Doug: I think that he was referring to the above link. Jim: I still won't detect in New Joisey, too good a chance to dig up Jimmy Hoffa or someone else.
