Hello again cointalkers! This one is an interesting one for sure, can’t quite put my finger on what this is if it’s indeed an error. Cud? Let me know. Thank you as always!
What year is it? Have you tried dipping it in pure acetone to see if any of the crud dissolves? Chris
69-D. It’s not crud what you see is the strike The metal rim that is supposed to be there isn’t. It’s not scratched off or worn either
It appears that it took a hit at some point copper is easily moved, you can see that the rim appeared to have been pushed up into the coin causing the lettering to be flattened out IMO. Dave
It is PMD. Looks like it was pinched between 2 hard plates. I don't see how anything in the minting process could account for this. Does the obverse have the same flattened/smeared appearance?
Nope the obverse appears completely normal and the edge isn’t tapered or damaged I would show you a picture but I don’t have the coin with me atm
That cents was stuck under a moving door or something. Sheared off off the rim and letters, spreading them across the coin.
