"worth collecting" .. and "long term collector value" ?? worth collecting - it's all dependent upon you. Do you like them? .. then they are worth collecting as you'll gain a value on owning them. There are ppl here on Cointalk that collect Canadian coins. Personally, I do not except through pocket change on one except of a 3D coin. long term value? - that is what the future holds. If you check past Canadian proof sets, and see the quantity sold and what their current values are then that will give you a better picture; such as using eBay for sold auctions. Check both short, medium and long term for more recent through much older sets. Then also add subjective valuations based on how the economy may be doing and stuff like that. If the economy is bad, then no one is buying and everyone may be selling .. so it depends on valuation, and when you may want to sell or not.
The coins are pretty, no doubt about it. Polls of collectors show that Canada is widely collected in the USA. But that is a very distant second or third... Realize that there are 300 million Americans and 30 million Canadians. By comparison, the big beautiful One Penny and Half Penny Bank of Upper Canada tokens are objectively rare compared to most US Large Cents and Half Cents, but you can get the Canadians for a fraction - and they are prettier, by far... but "no one" (relatively speaking) collects them. So, the markets are thinner and the prices weaker. But lots of people like them for the same reasons that you are attracted to the Mint and Proof sets.
