Do over priced TV coins help or hurt the coin collecting hobby? Here in this picture is the 2016 PR70 W mint congratulations set silver eagle selling for almost $2000 from HSN. maxresdefault.jpg

In September-October 2016 that 2016 Congrats was selling for that much on eBay. Their selling for mid $500s now on eBay ... and dropping more over time.

    but overall, HSN is overpriced.

Think of grandpa buying all his coins through the TV, then going to a LCS to sell his stuff and finding out the "value" is way below what he thought. Just go through cointalk and you'll find instances of this happening.

    Hurt...

When Gramps kicks the bucket and the heirs go to sell his fabulous collection of rare collectibles - and get laughed out of the store.... offered face or worse...

The chance of having one of the heirs retain part of the collection and thus converting ONE of the heirs into a collector (next generation) goes to zero.
