Hi, anyone familiar with the 1776 New Hampshire William Moulton colonial copper coin? Pics are here, hopefully you can see the detail. Maybe try hitting “full image” if you can’t see it. No mention of the word “copy” on this coin. Thanks for your help!

  3. I do not believe this is a colonial copper. It is likely an older replica.

The surface looks porous like a cast coin. Pics of the edge and an exact weight could help determine if the coin is authentic.

It looks like a cast replica. The fields are very pitty. Does the edge have a seem between the obverse and reverse?

This is one issue where it can not be ruled fake because it is cast, the originals were cast not struck! There is a lot of mystery about the New Hampshire coppers so nothing is definite. There are a couple of designs that are claimed to be the original issue, the design pictured here is generally considered to be a fantasy piece. It is also the design most often copied, so it is pretty safe to say this piece is a fake.
