A huge European silver

    Italian States. Genoa. AR 2 Scudi. 1676. 78g. VF. Scarce.

    Obv: Madonna and child. Rev: Cross surrounded by cherubs.

    A huge silver coin issued by the state of Genoa. The weightage system conforms to the average crown but unlike other issues, their weight and size doubles accordingly as illustrated in comparison to my palm.

    Thanks.. There's an even bigger 4 scudi doubling this weight.. But i don't have that.. lol

    It has definitely risen in prices.. These are pretty scarce in higher denominations..

    That's a tremendous piece of history and numismatic art. Like Doug, I'm mystified that anyone would even think about the melt value of such a thing. :confused:

    I think NGC is probably more concerned about its commercial instead of historical value...lol
