Why is it that every time someone finds a coin that "doesn't look like anything they have ever seen before" (my words) they automatically think they should submit it for grading? Rather than waste their money on such a worthless endeavor, why don't they spend the money on some books to learn about numismatics, first? Welcome to the neighborhood! Chris
I totally agree with cpm9ball ,take some Pic's and show the forum here first before spending any money on grading , there is a lot of talented folks on here to help.
The "silver" plated one, is easier to explain. It is really zinc plated and is part of a beginning chem lab experiment for middle and high school that is in multiple lab manuals and rarely fails to work to the amazement of young students. When I have done it, the students make several each to pass to friends and family, and I would guess there about 250,000+ still circulating. So a very common find and question on the forum. Those cents can be made in "gold" cents, by using heat to change the zinc plated ones into Brass plated ones. We get a few of those also. Yours looks like one where they didn't clean the cent well before putting it into the chemicals. Jim
Welcome to Coin Talk. I like your off center cent. Keep searching and looking for things you think are out of the ordinary, however like @cpm9ball said, get some books and start researching. Just start with Lincolns and learn what you can about them. Try www.lincolncentresource.com . Someone passed that knowledge on to me a while ago and it has been invaluable. Happy hunting!
