Hello, newbie coin collector here. I found this Lincoln penny and I can’t tell if it’s a product of a minting error or possible damage just due to wear and tear. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Only logical reply I have seen. No one really looks at the pics i suppose.lol. seen a couple of your replies on others including one of mine. Definitely not done from "Road rage" either a strange mint test or internal. I'm leaning on internal with a pen soldering iron. My question is wouldn't it have a shiner surface on the marks or will it quickly turn to top layer color. Most scratched and dents seem shiner. I have a penny where the nose is spackled possibly from air bubble pop at the mint and someone spackled before it left the mint.
How? Small pen sodering iron. Like the ones you do detail wood engravings . But the color would be off or brighter in those areas . Yes maybe No? What do you think
Let’s start with small chisels and hammers, long ago. And it goes on from there. There simply is no “at the mint” answer, and that should end the conversation right there. “When you’ve eliminated the impossible, what remains is the truth, no matter how unlikely.”
These bad dents aren't shiny because the coin circulated after someone damaged it. Don't know what you mean by 'strange mint test' or 'internal'. I assure you it's not a mint 'testing' anything, and if you mean someone did it internally at the Mint, that's not correct either. As I've said numerous times, you'd be surprised what people do to their coins on purpose, and/or what can occur to coins by accident. Please remember just because it looks a bit different, doesn't mean it's an error. And, minting coins is a manufacturing process - there are coins struck from worn or overused dies, or other minor anomalies that are part of the minting process, and might be interesting in the study of the minting process, but are not considered errors -
Intentional, AFTER it left the mint. People are cruel, you know? Especially to poor helpless little bronze coins that never hurt NOBODY, darn it! I say it's "cent abuse"! We need to STAMP OUT cent abuse!. Hashtag! #AbeToo?
