E-bay sends me e-mail notices for ancient coins and I have chuckled (or done a face-palm) at some of them. This one is actually disgusting for what these "sellers" are doing. I have no doubt they will somehow erase this from their reviews and return to 100%, but this is from their reviews:
So...'tuck... is THIS why people refer to the ancient coins market as "the dark side"? I'm starting to get it. Also, when I post highly critical things about dealing through eBay, this stuff makes me look like Einstein. I'm starting not to get what people DO like about Internet numismatics.
Ah, that Bellman sense of humor (actually I like it). There are LOTS of things wrong with dealing through e-bay, for all coins, not just ancient ones. The charlatans who pull this deal in all sorts of coins. On the other hand, if you are careful and the experts at CoinTalk (ahem...) have your back, there are lots of good deals out there.
I have dear friend who is an IT instructor who always says, "there is nothing good about the internet that crooks and fools can't ruin."
I got burned on eBay one time. They made it all right. It was my fault for trusting the picture. Learned valuable lessons from that transaction. Haven't made the same mistake.
But only the Internet is both everywhere and nowhere, making it the world's most convenient corruption target.
