2 boxes of halves from the new bank. Box 1 was skunk. Box 2 gave 3 40%ers. B089C878-19BF-4B19-B679-2771B73A5F28.jpeg

I imagine most vending machines reject silver. I know CoinStars tend to, and so do the self-checkout machines at my usual grocery stores. However, I've received silver in change from them (very rarely).

My impression is that the machines don't "recycle" change that gets fed into them -- they're stocked with change, and collect deposits separately. I could be wrong about that, but even if I am, I think they get "manually stocked" from time to time, and there's no composition check at that step.

I think this is correct as well. I have heard of people getting silver as change from machines, but they do reject it if you try to pay with it. As you said, the coins dispensed as change are stocked and not the coins that previous customers have paid with.

My finished box will not be bought before Friday if even then.
So I went to our bank and bought a sealed box.
Thankfully it's not all 2017D or such.
Through 4 rolls 28 copper and a 1987 Canada penny.

Working from home today so I decided to go to the bank across the street and grab a few rolls.

$14 nickels: 5 MWR rolls all new 2017-P. Gave a quick examination to the coins and found that many already had large scratches and scuffs on them, despite looking new and not a hint of a fingerprint on any of them. Only thing of interest was an average-circulated 1946.

    $6 pennies: 1955-D, 1979 Canada, about a dozen AU/BU 1979-81 coins.

One of the other tellers was counting some Ikes when I went in, but I listened closely to each coin and didn't hear any silver so I may or may not go back for those.

I always go for Ikes. The varieties are big and easy to see, not that I ever find any lol. Always hope.

Well, once again I came out of retirement. All started when I needed to withdraw cash at the bank and saw some halves that the teller had in her tray. Saw one rim that I knew was silver. It was a 40%er. So the past week and a half I did 5 boxes which gave one Frankie and 11 40%ers. Not great but a start. I will only be doing about 4 boxes a week. Happy Hunting everyone!

I went quickly through a whole box of new 2015-D nickels on a rainy day a few years ago looking for a few without marks. This was virtually impossible. Circulation coins must get the crap beaten out of them at the mint.

You should always buy Ikes! You can always spend them at a bar. :)

Didn't have any more cash on me. The bank is across the street so I can go back if I want.

Edit: also, I'm not sure bartenders want them either. Somebody tipped Ned at Grendel's with a 1921 Morgan and he was annoyed by it.

If Ned is that displeased I'd be happy to exchange it for a nice crisp one dollar bill.

Hello everyone, its nice to be back in the USA, after taking the whole month of January off. Reading the past blogs I must say 2018 has been a pretty good year for some of you! Feb 01 to 08 2018 Finds 90s-ccfopt.jpg Feb 01 to 08 2018 Finds 40s-ccfopt.jpg Feb 08 18 Finds-ccfopt.jpg 20180208_105716 (1)-ccfopt.jpg 20180208_110451-ccfopt.jpg 20180208_110646-ccfopt.jpg Congrats to everyone who has scored silver this year. Its so wonderful to see silver is still finding its way to everyone. I was having silver withdrawals reading all those great posts. I picked up my first 8 boxes on the 1st of February all skunks, and I picked up 12 more boxes this week. when box 9 was a skunk I didn't think it was going to be such a great start for the year. Box 10 surprised me with silver and broke that skunk streak. Things got better from there. My first 20 boxes to start the new year yielded me 124 pieces of silver. I pulled 51 90%ers, 1-43S Walker, 2- Bennies, 1-59D and 1-63D, also pulled 48-64 which 34 of them are D's, Pulled 73-40%ers, 6-65, 12-66, 30-67, 18-68, and 7-69. Also 3 clad proofs 1-73S, 2-77S. Maybe I should take a month off more often. Way above my goal of 10 pieces of silver a week and I didn't even search the first four weeks of the year. I would state that is a great start to 2018. I picked up 150 dollars in ikes yesterday. There are some real quality ones in there. Didn't see any varieties on my quick scan. Ive accumulated way too many ikes as of late. It just seems like such a waste to dump them back at the bank, so I'll probably list them somewhere for sale.

I was searching through rolls of Kennedy's and Lincoln Cents. Found a good bit of wheaties. Also good bit of silver 1964-1970, like 10.

Oldest I've gotten out of the current box of pennies was 39.
It's in rotten shape. Going back through copper rolls I've put more than a few wheats in 5 and at least a few in 6.

    $25 CWR Cents: 27, 36, 38, 41, 42, 44 (x2), 45, 46-S, 52 (x2), 52-D, 55 (x2), 57-D, 58-D, and 1093 copper cents. Had 17 rolls that looked like someone rolled no later than 1979 based on the coins included and the age on the wrappers.

    $72 CWR Nickels: 39, 47, 47-D, 49, 52, 56-D, 2009-P, and 42-S

    $285 CWR Dimes: 60-D, 62-D

I searched 5 rolls of dimes. Didn't expect much and wasn't surprised. I did find a 1997 in my 1977 flip but was able to correct it.

From the current box of pennies most of the copper is going back out into the wild.
