Hello! Hope y’all are well! I’ve tried to research this but thought I could ask here. My brother found a 1997 penny with Kennedy on the head instead of whoever was supposed to be on it. It looks just like a dime except for it’s a penny. Does anyone have any info about that? It’s not the penny that has both of them on there. Thank you so much!

    Welcome to Coin Talk. Stacy.
Photos will be needed to make any kind of speculation as to what your brother found.

We could guess. Could be a dime that has suffered environmental damage leaving it a copper color, but the dime has Franklin Roosevelt not Kennedy on it. As alurid stated, you will have to post photos for any kind of educated assessment of the coin.

Okay he sent me a pic but I’ll have to see how to share it. I got it incorrectly. It IS a dime but it’s a little smaller than a regular dime and is copper color like a penny. So maybe something environmental happened. I half hear what he said original. Sorry! Nice to meet y’all!

Not a very good photo but this one shows the difference in thinness of the regular dime compared to the copper colored one on the right

Blowing the pic up I can obviously see the silver on the top right corner....

Looks a lot like environmental damage has thinned the coin down

That 1962 is worth a lot more, it's got over a dollar of silver in it.

    A terrifying prospect occurs...
Looking so much like present small change...
"Gems" like pre-'65 could get spent if fallen into uninformed hands...

Also, one wonders if the temporal history of the "value of the dollar"...
    is adequately appreciated...
That '62 dime was very much harder to come by than today's
    "Frankendime" poseurs.

Don't say that or we won't find squat with our coin roll hunting...

That is Franklin Roosevelt by the way, not Kennedy.
