And "fuming" has more to do with how much the vapor loves to glom onto humidity, turning it into acid mist. Hydrochloric acid likes to do this, and so does nitric acid, especially if it's got extra oxides of nitrogen in it ("white fuming" or "red fuming" nitric acid).

For extra fun, open a bottle of concentrated ammonia and a bottle of concentrated hydrochloric acid, and blow across the neck of one toward the other. Instant smokescreen of ammonium chloride, less harmful than either of the individual reactants.

A current safety tip from my time in the oil patch, with the total unfettering of the oil industry in the last year, opening national parks, public lands and the Continental Shelf to drilling comes an added danger. If one of these fields is near you and a well has an aviation wind sock on a pole? It is an H2S hydrogen sulfide producing well. It is a "two step" gas, breathe it, two steps, and you are dead. H2S is an organic gas and smells like rotten eggs from the sulfur. Get yourself a high quality respirator, and no beards as the gas will go around them. We worked these wells and it added a pucker factor. You could tell a well by dead rabbits, coyotes and birds around them.
I read some text that says we really no longer need blow out preventers. Who knew?

It's just not very high on anyone's priority list. What he's doing is definitely against the Hobby Protection Act, so an aggrieved private party could sue him for damages, or the FTC could come in and seize all his inventory. But they won't, because he's small potatoes.

If someone raised enough of a stink with the venue (the folks who rent space to this loser), the venue might kick him out, or tell him to stop selling them. It could happen, in fact it might already have happened. But I haven't been back in over two years, so I don't know.
