I recently won this silver greek in an auction, mainly because I couldn't figure out the proper identification and I was obsessing about it haha. Anyway, because I don't have the coin in my possession, these are the only photos I have. The image of Athena on the back leads me to think it's some kind of Cappadocia, but I cannot find an identical coin. Any info is appreciated, thanks!
Looks like it is based on the Greek designs, but it isn't a Greek coin. Design is crude and the "inscriptions" are pretty much just alternating right side up and upside down V's. As if made by an illiterate engraver that didn't recognize the letters on the original as words but as decoration. That would suggest either a contemporary copy or counterfeit from a distant part of the empire, or a more modern fake made to sell to tourists. Which it is I can't say.
I am leaning towards either Celtic or a complete forgery. You'll get more help if you post in the "ancient coins" forum.
