Hi all, I recently saw an auction on ebay about to end on a 1932 s quarter graded F 12 by anacs.. It looked over graded a bit to me, but for $65 I decided to go for it (The seller I bought from had %100 feedback so I figured it was safe) When the coin arrived a week later everything seemed alright until I noticed a mark on the side of the slab, Maybe it was dropped? idk. Also I'm not %100 sure on the mm, i'm by no means an expert on identifying fake/added mm's though. It's also important to mention that the serial # and the barcode match with whats on the holder. I hope by posting these pictures I can get some closure on if I got a good coin or a good scam..
Thanks for the insight. I was surprised by how badly it was overgraded.. even an amateur like me could tell.
I have a nice 1921 Morgan $ 8 TF that even has a VAM listing on the slab from ANACAS. It is in the old small while slabs, and is phonier looking than the stuff coming out of China now. I keep bugging them to cross it over into a new slab, but they tell me it is a different company now and they don't guarantee the older encasements.
Ouch.. were you able to tell if the holder is fake aswell or just the Morgan?. Man I miss the days of "if it's slabbed it's geniune".. I hear China has been getting better at fake holders nowadays.
LOL! As if they could EVER aspire to be able to handle the previous owners' light work. Seriously, that's like saying, "well, Tom Brady's no Jeff Hostetler, is he?"
That '32-S looks perfectly good to me. The area around the MM is a great tell for it being authentic. It's kinda weird with these, if the are around the MM looks bad, it's typically an indicator of it being good. The darker color around the S is due to that area being slightly recessed, so dirt and grime collects in there. Had it been the same color as the fields around it, it would either have been cleaned or an added MM, especially at that grade.
Thanks for the info! Glad to hear ita geniune and I was just being paranoid lol. Very interesting.. I wonder why it's recessed, was the minting process different back then?
