What do I need to look for in the 1940 Newfoundland 1c. to tell the difference between the re-engraved date & the normal date? I know the re-engraved date coin is far scarcer & that the price reflects that.
I could find no mention of a repunched die for the 1940 Newfoundland Cent. The "C" mintmark was ommited in error on the 1940 and 1942 1 Cent coins.
newfoundland 1940 hi im unsure how to tell but i will look it up the 1940 and 1941 have re-engraved variations
1940-1941 re-engrav ed Some examples of the 1940 NFLD one cent coins show a very distinct doubling of the date as if there were a high date over a low date. The most distinct doubling is on the 4, but all all four digits show some degree of doubling. This type is known as the re-engraved . big diff in value then standard cents, i collect newfoundland as my main choice of coin
Interesting info! Btw...this thread was started five years ago. Aidan was banned a while back and the others haven't posted in three years.:smile
