I wanted to get some opinions on these 2 coins. (sellers Pics) These are being sold as uncleaned & uncirculated. Please share your thoughts... Thanks Steve
Upper is Roosevelt and Quezon. Lower is Murphy and Quezon. Mintage was 10,000 each. I don't see anything unusual but I am surprised to see in this condition without being slabbed. Weak strike is normal. If genuine those are very nice coins. My examples are in "ship wreck" condition. Some history from my notes: WWII the Philippines were attempting to keep the money in the National Treasury away from the Japanese. $20,000,000 in currency was burned and $2,000,000 in gold bars along with $360,000 in Silver bars were shipped to San Francisco. The remaining Silver coins were dumped into the Caballo Bay off Corregidor Island. The Japanese attempted to retrieve the Silver coins using Filipino and American prisoners. They were only able to get around 250,000 Pesos. In 1945, the U.S. Navy was able to retrieve another 5,380,000 Pesos. There are still coins in the Bay today. Weight should be 20g and diameter 35mm. Unc value $200-$350
Here's one I have that I'd grade AU. By the photos you posted, I don't believe either coin is Unc. Cleaning, I'm not sure, same with authenticity. If these coins are being offered on eBay, I think I would pass.
I believe your coin will grade uncirculated, and I'm not questioning the authenticity of the coins I posted, I know they're real. I am just asking for opinions on the grade. Thanks for yours.
Well, I pulled the trigger on these coins, here's another look... I have wanted this set for a long time.
I believe both of those coins have been polished. They also both appear to be AU. If you got them for a good price, then they are still a solid pickup. As mentioned earlier, these are not the most common coins.
I'm not seeing it... they look ok to me. If they are polished then I probably paid a little too much. Here's a pic with my I-phone. I appreciate your help.
Here’s the grades... I honestly thought they would grade higher, but all and all I’m happy with the outcome.
Those are tough coins in the higher MS grades. From the orginal pictures I was thinking 61/62 grades but it's not easy from the pictures.
