I am creating a data base and have run into a coin set listed in the Red Book that I can not find a mintage or sets sold number and am looking to see if anyone else knows. According to the Red Book (2018, page 351) there was a 2 coin set sold that contained one $5 proof and one $5 uncirculated. Found a ton of information here: https://www.pcgs.com/books/commemoratives/ but not sets sold for this set. Can anyone assist? Thank you
Mintage Data - Maximum authorized-500,000 Number minted - 95,248 Uncirculated and 404,013 Proof sorry but I didn't find sets sold
@Scott Magnuson How about this - https://www.usmint.gov/about/produc...morative-coin-sales/1986-us-statue-of-liberty
I've seen it listed too but never seen any information on it, nor have I seen the set. If you go a few pages back to the 1986 coins the 2 gold set isn't even listed there. I have the 3 coin (gold + 2 silver) and 2 silver coin sets. I've probably would have bought the 2 gold set if it was generally available back then, so I'm curious if they ever released it ??
Does not list the 2 Gold Coin set mintage, but other info. http://moderncommemoratives.com/1986-statue-of-liberty-5-gold/
It is difficult to impossible to find the mintage figures for any of the multi coin commemorative sets. (We know how many of each coin was sold but not how many were individual and how many were in sets. About the only way to do so would probably be to go to the ANA library and go through the back issues of Coin World or Numismatic News and tally the monthly sales figures reported by the mint at the time. As far as I know no one has done that.
LOL. Thanks for the vote of confidence. @Condor101 gave a suggestion but my ANA membership is expired and I have not renewed it. But coincidentally I am flying to Colorado Springs tomorrow for work. Don't know if that is also the library's location but maybe I'll find a couple hours to check it out.
Yes visitors can use the library, but only ANA members can check out materials. Need to find someone else going to the library for another research project. As we all know the standard references do not give a breakdown of the mintages of the copper and zinc Lincoln cents. But back in 82 Coin World reported the monthly mint production figures. They also reported when each mint switched over from copper to zinc production and I believe when the small date production began. From those three pieces of information a rough estimate of the mintages of each of the seven 1982 varieties. You won't have exact mintages but it would be better than the information we have now.
