This is a 1977 Inaugural Medal for President Jimmy Carter. While I found several of these elsewhere I cannot find ANY with a Denver mint mark? I contacted the National mint but they had told me that the Denver mint doesn't make Inaugural medals. This medal has a distinct 'D' beneath the 'E' in Carter on the obverse. This medal is encased in clear plastic with red stripes on two sides exactly like Denver Mint sets. I found Philadelphia minted Jimmy Carter Inaugural medals selling for $7. Does anyone know the value of a Denver minted Jimmy Carter Inaugural Medal? I cannot find ANY information about this anywhere.
First of all I don't mean to be argumentative BUT anyone can put any coin in a box with the name "Medallic Art Co. New York" How do you explain the imprint on the edge of the plastic where the red stripe is ? It is stamped "US MINT" now maybe it could be possible that this medal is NOT an official Inaugural Medal. I do not know. Second of all I do NOT see a "D" mint mark on your medal even though it is sealed in plastic with red stripes. That is why I posted this here trying to find out any information I can but sorry AnonymousCoinCollector I just don't believe this medal was made by Medallic Art Co. This is the original link for this medal try looking at this: https://catalog.usmint.gov/jimmy-ca...-5-16-inch-841.html?cgid=presidential#start=1 This IS a US MINT medallion I just can't find anything about the DEFINITE "D" on MY medal
Ok, sorry for my haste. Please accept my apology. What you are saying makes sense but here is one selling on Ebay with the D mint mark for $20. So the Mint must be wrong when they told you that info about none being minted in Denver. https://m.ebay.ca/itm/Jimmy-Carter-...162848?hash=item51be6cf5e0:g:KpoAAOxyOlhS-6z-
Here is an article from 1977 that indicates the US Mint may have made more versions that may hold a clue for you. https://www.usmint.gov/learn/histor...of-editions-president-carters-miniature-medal
That's quite alright no need for apologies I just knew this medal was a US mint medal maybe not the official medal but made by the US mint nevertheless. Thanks for the info. Now I see why I didn't see this before. I did look on eBay several times but never thought to look on ebay.ca (Canada's version) even though this medal is being sold by a US seller. As for my conversation with the US mint, I was told by others that the mint doesn't really keep records back 40 years. I still can't believe it's been 40 years already I had 11 years numismatic experience when this medal was minted.
