I “assumed” that ALL wheat pennies were worth at least 2 cents, primarily due to copper content. ?Same value for Lincoln pennies, 1959-1982, given same 95% copper content? Thanks for assist.
You assumed wrong. The thing that makes any coin worth any more than face is the desire to have it, PARTICULARLY in cents, because you can't now and likely never will be able to collect 2 cents from their supposed metal value. Sorry, this hobby is NOT your own little "get rich quick" scheme. I know, what's this world coming to, right?
You assumed wrong! Lincoln cents are a copper alloy, and some fools base their value on the price of Grade A Copper which Lincoln cents are not. It costs refiners money to extract the copper! Chris
Technically speaking, pre-1982 cents are NOT copper, they are BRONZE. It's a different thing. They give medals of the stuff to 3rd place finishers at the Olympics and other places. Soon, on NBC. Ice, snow, figure skating commentators that make you want to mute the TV, the whole shmeer. I just checked both commodities: Copper $2.96 per pound Bronze $1.85 per pound See the problem? Yeahhhhhh.
